The WSET Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines (Hospitality)
This qualification aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service of wine including the:
� Main styles of wine
� WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting
� Characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine
� Service of wine
� Health, safety and legal issues
� Matching of food and wine
To gain the Level 1 qualification, candidates will be required to complete successfully:
A multiple choice paper of 30 questions
A portfolio of tasting notes
Candidates applying to sit the examination must be over the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages (18 years of age +)

BIIAB Level 1 Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing
A new course designed to familiarise bar staff with the key elements of the Licensing Act 2003 as it affects their role. This programme may lead on to completion of the BIIAB National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders.

BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal License Holders
Under the Licensing Act 2003 there is a statutory requirement that all retail sales of alcohol must be made or authorised by a personal license holder. One of the statutory requirements for the grant of a personal licence is the possession of a qualification that has been accredited by the QCA and by the DCMS. This course meets both the above criteria and will satisfy one of the conditions necessary to obtain a personal license.

BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Licensees (Drugs Awareness)
This is designed to raise awareness of the prevailing illegal drugs scene, it gives basic knowledge and understanding of the law pertaining to the misuse of and supply of controlled drugs on licensed premises. It also provides operational guidelines to help licensees deal effectively with any drug related problems in their venues

The NCDPS goes much further than the NCPLH and has more practical bias around implementation of the Licensing Act 2003.
