The WSET Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Wines (Hospitality)

This qualification aims to provide the basic product knowledge and skills in the service of wine including the:

� Main styles of wine

� WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting

� Characteristics of the common grape varieties used to produce wine

� Service of wine

� Health, safety and legal issues

� Matching of food and wine

To gain the Level 1 qualification, candidates will be required to complete successfully:

A multiple choice paper of 30 questions

A portfolio of tasting notes

Candidates applying to sit the examination must be over the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages (18 years of age +)

BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal License Holders

Under the Licensing Act 2003 there is a statutory requirement that all retail sales of alcohol must be made or authorised by a personal license holder. One of the statutory requirements for the grant of a personal licence is the possession of a qualification that has been accredited by the QCA and by the DCMS. This course meets both the above criteria and will satisfy one of the conditions necessary to obtain a personal license.
