Wadworth Legends Week

This year, Wadworth turns 150, and what better way to mark this incredible milestone than by celebrating the people who make our community so special?

Earlier this year, we asked you to share your stories - the heartfelt, hilarious, and unforgettable moments that connect you to our beers, our pubs, and our people. From passionate pub-goers and long-standing fans to legendary characters who’ve each played a unique part in the Wadworth story. Whether it was meeting over a pint of 6X, having a favourite Wadworth pub full of stories, or quietly collecting our memorabilia for years – we wanted to hear it all. And you didn’t disappoint.

The response was incredible, we were blown away by the love for all things Wadworth. From lots of brilliant nominations, we selected five true superfans whose stories stood out – our official Wadworth Legends.

To thank them, we invited each Legend (and a guest) to the brewery for a VIP day at Wadworth. From sharing stories in our iconic Sign Shop while Wayne and worked their magic on pub signs, to lunch and brewery chats with Head Brewer Andy at The Three Crowns, and finishing with a behind-the-scenes tour and tasting at Folly Road – it was a day to remember.

Now, it’s time to share their stories with you.

All this week, we’ll be shining a spotlight on one Legend each day - celebrating the people behind 150 years of Wadworth history.

Stay tuned as we release each legend’s story, capturing their passion and part in Wadworth's 150-year journey.

Introducing our very first Wadworth Legend – Ellen!

From falling in love with Swordfish, to collecting Wadworth memorabilia, to naming her brand new springer spaniel puppy... Wadworth (yes, really!), Ellen's connection to Wadworth is special.
At just four months old, little Wadworth has already been busy with his pub training, visiting several of our pubs on his way to becoming a regular. He's certainly a Wadworth Legend in his own right.

Ellen (and Wadworth) kick off our series of short films celebrating the incredible stories and people that have made the last 150 years of Wadworth so special. Take a watch

Introducing our second Wadworth Legend, Nigel!

Nigel’s love for 6X began in the early ‘90s while running a rural Herefordshire pub with his wife. Known for serving top-quality cask ales, Nigel proudly always kept 6X on tap and, in the name of quality control, sampled rather a lot of 6X (A selfless act, of course.)
He became quite legendary for his love for 6X, so much so that at his 50th birthday party in 2003, guests were quizzed on how many pints he’d drunk over the years. The answer? 45,000 pints of 6X.

Still proudly drinking 6X decades later, Nigel’s love for our amber ale is legendary. His family even know, if they’re buying beer, it must be Wadworth!
Watch Nigel’s full story in our latest short film, part of our series celebrating the fans who’ve made 150 years of Wadworth unforgettable.

Introducing our third Wadworth Legend, John!

For John, Wadworth isn’t just a part of life, it’s part of the family history. His connection goes all the way back to around 1900, when his grandfather became landlord of the Fox & Hounds in Devizes. John was actually born in the pub itself in 1931, when his father had taken over the pub.
John has so many incredible stories from the skittle alley once being the family cow shed, to a steam engine crashing through the front of the pub in the 1910s (yes, really! There’s photographic proof!). The Fox & Hounds skittle team was part of the original Devizes league, and John is still a member to this day.
His story reminds us that the Wadworth community is built on generations of unforgettable people and pubs. Watch his story in the latest film from our 150th birthday series.

Introducing our fourth Wadworth Legend, John!

Introducing our fourth Wadworth Legend, John!
After 40 years in the RAF, John had planned to settle by the sea. But one weekend in Devizes, and one pint of 6X, changed everything. Rediscovering his old favourite at just the right moment, John fell for the town and the beer, swapping the south coast for life in Devizes in 2019.
Since then, John’s made the most of his new local life, frequenting many Wadworth pubs, trying every beer in our range, but always staying loyal to his all-time favourite: 6X. (Although 6X 1923, our seasonal ale brewed to celebrate 100 years of 6X, comes a close second!)
He’s even made a tradition of a Wadworth pub crawl on New Year’s Eve, visiting every pub enroute that serves a pint of 6X, making sure to stop off at The Bear Hotel, which John proudly claims serves the best pint in town!
Do you agree with John? Who serves the best pint of 6X you’ve ever had?
Watch John’s story in the next film from our 150th anniversary series, celebrating the people who’ve made Wadworth what it is today

Introducing our fifth and final Wadworth Legend, Tim!

Born just down the road in Bromham, Tim’s been a true Wadworth fan since well before he was old enough to order a pint. His earliest memories? Stealing sips of 6X and Henry’s IPA from his dad’s glass at the Greyhound, and smelling the malty aromas from his primary school playground opposite Northgate brewery!
These days, his favourite pub is The Barge at Seend, and his all-time favourite beer? 6X 1923, the special brew we created to celebrate 100 years of 6X. It’s not just the flavour (though it’s dangerously good), Tim has a personal connection too; he won our competition to help brew it with Head Brewer Andy at Folly Road Brewhouse!
A true campaigner and lifelong fan, Tim says there's no place he'd rather have spent his birthday than at our brewery, which worked out perfectly, since our Wadworth Legends Day landed exactly on his 38th!
Watch his story now in the final short film of our anniversary series, and help us raise a glass to 150 years of passion, pints and proper Wadworth people.
