When you visit one of our managed pubs (and, indeed, many of the independent Wadworth pubs run in conjunction with our Business Partners) we offer you the ability to log on to the Internet through our guest wifi platform.
Lots of companies now offer free wifi and customers are often confused why they need to provide personal information just to access the Internet.
In the wake of many data scandals, customers are understandably concerned about why we might need to take such information before providing access to the Internet.
According to industry guidelines it is considered "best practice" to ensure that we understand who is using our wifi and to give you the best experience getting online we have partnered with a leading guest wifi company, Wireless Social
Here, we hope to answer some of the most common questions we are asked about accessing our wifi platform.
Why do I have to sign in to use your wifi?
Many people would prefer anonymity online but we ask you to sign in to our wifi for your protection and ours too.
When you connect to an 'open' network (one that has not asked you to log or sign in), you are potentially open to other users on that network who may seek to access your device for malicious intent. We, as the supplier of such a service, would also have no protection against those who may choose to use our network for mischievous reasons.
By asking you to identify yourself when logging in, we are ensuring we have undertaken due diligence to protect ourselves and you, our customer, from those who may not have the best of intentions.
What information do you ask for?
There are several ways to get online with our system: you can sign in through your preferred social media account, or you can choose to complete a short form. Depending on which social media service you choose to sign in with will depend on the amount of information we might receive, but this is typically restricted to name, date of birth and email address.
If you don't want to sign in using a social media account and complete the form instead, we will ask for your name, date of birth and email address.
Will you sell my information to other companies?
No. Your information will always be held in our secure system and will only ever be used by Wadworth and the pub you visited, if you give us permission to do so when signing in for marketing purposes.
Will you send me lots of marketing information?
We minimise the number of emails sent out to customers on our database only sending relevant offers and information. If, at any time, you feel you are receiving too much from us or simply do not want to hear from us any more, you can easily unsubscribe from the database using the link within the email you receive.
When you sign in you will be asked if you would like us to send you news, information and offers. If you do not tick the box we will never contact you. If you do tick the box, you may receive news about the pub you visited, about Wadworth beers, and you may receive digital vouchers to redeem in your local Wadworth pub.
Regardless of whether you sign up for news and information or not, our wifi partners Wireless Social will send you an email to provide you information on how your data has been processed and what to do if you would like it to be deleted.
What happens after I'm signed in?
You're good to go, as you would normally for browsing.
Once you are signed in, you will automatically be sent to a landing page through your browser. Typically, this will be the website of the pub you are visiting but occasionally this may also be a page relating to an offer we have on or a seasonal message.
From time to time we may run short surveys when you have connected to our WiFi, however there is never any obligation to proceed with the survey and not completing the survey will not prevent you from accessing the Internet.
