The Pheasant pub in Chippenham, Wiltshire is home to four successful apprentices, all recently receiving their qualifications.  Amanda Blackman has achieved her Level 3 Diploma in Licensed Hospitality Skills, Jake Moore and Callum Stanley have gained Level 2 NVQ Diplomas in Professional Cookery and Violetta Nagy her BTEC Level 2 in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Kitchen Services).

Richard Jennings, manager of the Pheasant said “It’s great to see them progressing as apprentices with Wadworth.  With their participation I now potentially have two head chefs and eventually my replacement. Our succession plans continue with our next Level 3 candidate poised to start her apprenticeship soon.

Amanda Blackman said of her level 3 Diploma work, “I really enjoyed it, getting my teeth into it; some elements were quite challenging. As well as traditional hospitality skills I improved my computer literacy including how to use power point. It has helped me with recruitment and training new team members at the pub as well as reinforcing my financial knowledge of the business.”

“I’m really proud of the pub team having four apprentices at one pub”, said John Pettit the Wadworth retail development manager for the Pheasant, “It is a credible example of investment in people and their development.  By looking after your team, you will reap the rewards through their loyalty.”

Wadworth currently has 19 apprentices in its managed pubs training at various levels front and back of house skills.

About Wadworth: Wadworth is an independent family brewer and regional pub operator, very proud of its West Country roots. Founded by Henry A Wadworth, the business passed to his founding partner John Smith Bartholomew and is now in the fourth-generation of ownership by the Bartholomew family. Wadworth has created original beers at its brewery in Devizes, Wiltshire since 1875 and is one of the few remaining family brewers to deliver to the local area using shire horses. It also has a 200-strong pub estate and works hard with its business partners and managers to ensure that the pubs offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, quality food and drink and excellent accommodation to make their customers’ day.
