Welcome to the George Inn, St Briavels

St. Briavels stands on the edge of a limestone plateau 800 feet above the Wye Valley, with spectacular views.

The village shelters behind the remains of a 12th century castle which is now used as a youth hostel. The entrance gateway dates back to 1275 and the castle was the administrative centre of the Royal Hunting Forest. St. Briavels is famous for the age old tradition called the 'St Briavels Bread and Cheese Dole' which is said to date back to the 12th century. Each year on Whit Sunday bread & cheese is thrown from the wall of the castle to local 'Dole Claimers' dressed in medieval costume. Take a visit to this traditional pub serving a great range of drinks and sit back, relax and let the team at St Briavels take care of the rest.
