Long Live The Local will rally the British public, celebrate pubs and remind everyone how vital local pubs are to our communities, culture and national identity.
Between Beer Duty, Business Rates and VAT, pubs are under increasing tax pressure. One-in-three pounds spent in the pub goes straight to the taxman, amounting to an average of £140,000 per pub every year.
The UK pays the third highest Beer Duty in Europe at 54pence on a 5% pint of beer - twelve times higher than Germany and Spain! It is set to rise again in November, so we're asking locals all across the country to sign a petition and write to their MP to tell government the people of Britain want a cut in Beer Duty, not a rise.
Three pubs close every day and the Chancellor must do something to help keep our local pubs open and thriving.
