6X is the jewel in Wadworth’s crown. Our most popular beer, the one which made us famous, and the beer that has won numerous medals in a variety of awards. It has been in production for over 100 years, celebrating its centenary in 2023.

For many ale drinkers, 6X is the only option, so if you’ve never tried it, don’t wait any longer. Full bodied and distinctive, it’s a classic premium amber ale with an ABV of 4.1% (4.3% in 500ml bottles).

Available by bottle, can, microcask, cask or keg all year round, 6X is mid-brown in colour, malty and fruity on the nose with a balancing hoppy note. The delicious malt and fruit character emerge even more intensely on the palate with a long, lingering and malty finish.

Did you know?

  • 6X was originally 6% and reduced to 4.3% due to rationing of raw ingredients during WWII.  It later reduced to 4.1% in draught.
  • Coopers used to mark casks with a whitewashed cross (or ‘X’) to denote the beer’s strength. As this beer’s ABV was originally 6%, Coopers would mark XXXXXX. One day a ‘lazy’ Cooper simply wrote ‘6’ followed by a single ‘X’ on the cask and that’s how 6X got its name!
  • First brewed 5th December 1923.
