First Wadworth Sportive sees 250 cyclists taking part

The independent family brewer, Wadworth held its first cycling Sportive this weekend in collaboration with Let’s Go Velo.  Some 200 cyclists took part in the two-route event, choosing either a 25 or 50 mile ride across the Wiltshire Countryside.

The Sportive was held to encourage fun social cycling with the start and finish at the Wadworth brewery in Devizes.  All the participating cyclists enjoyed a bbq and bar after finishing their ride and took away a well-deserved bottle of Wadworth 6X ale.  Two of Wadworth’s own brewery team actually completed the 50-mile route on a tandem.

A team of 8 employees, plus friends and colleagues from the Wadworth brewery and regional pub operator took part alongside Trowbridge Cycling Club who also participated as winners of Wadworth’s Mamil campaign with the club receiving sponsorship from Wadworth for a year.

Chris Welham, CEO for Wadworth said, “We wanted to create a Sportive for Wiltshire cyclists that featured the brewery.  We know many cyclists enjoy a pint of our beer at our pubs after they have finished cycling.  As the official sponsor of the MAMIL (middle aged men in lycra), we felt that this was a great way of raising some more awareness and getting more people involved”.

Wadworth hopes to continue the event following its success this year.
