Devizes Opendoors gain much needed support

Wadworth, the independent family brewer and pub operator is holding its first Christmas market on the 7th December with all proceeds going to local charity, Devizes Opendoors.

The day will feature a range of stalls selling locally produced food, drink and handmade gifts.  Wadworth’s own shire horses will be there to meet and greet visitors and there will be a Santa’s Grotto inside the visitor centre for the little ones.

There will also be a drop off point at the event for members of the public to bring warm winter clothing, sleeping bags, socks, gloves and hats which will be transported to the Devizes Opendoors centre on the day.  Toiletries and other small items will also be gratefully received by pupils from Lavington School, who will be at the Market on the day, packing the items into Christmas boxes for homeless people.

Speaking about the event, Shelley Field manager at the Wadworth Visitor Centre, “This is going to be a great event to bring the community of Devizes together to celebrate Christmas whilst supporting a wonderful local charity, Devizes Opendoors”.

John Saunders from Opendoors, said, “We are really grateful to Wadworth for holding the Christmas market and for the funds raised to go to our charity.  We support homeless and vulnerable people in the area by providing three hot meals a week and helping them through the difficulties involved in trying to improve their living conditions. The additional warm winter clothing donated on the day will help us support those in need over the colder months”.

The Christmas market will commence from 11am to 5pm. Admittance is free.  All warm clothing donations will be accepted at the Visitor centre only on that day.
